Apple to refund credits to Apple TV Plus subscribers until June
Apple will reimburse credits to Apple TV Plus subscribers until June. The move comes after the company extended the free trial program last month.
Refund is available for customers who upgraded to paid subscription status prior to the announcement of the free trial extension. It is available for both subscribers who have chosen the annual and monthly plans.
Apple had given similar refund credits to its Apple TV Plus subscribers when it released the first free trial extension. According to 9to5Google, Apple is sending emails to subscribers informing them that they will receive monthly credits of $4.99 (or the local equivalent of the subscription fee) on their Apple accounts. Users can use the credits to make purchases on the App Store.
The free trial extension is likely to help Apple gain more subscribers as the competition in the OTT space continues to heat up. While Netflix and Prime Video (Amazon) have dominated the segment, more and more new platforms such as Disney +, HBO Max and Peacock have emerged.
In addition, Apple TV is working on more new content. Just recently, it gave the green light to a limited series on desktop-sharing startup WeWork. The show “WeCrashed” is based on a Wondery podcast titled “WeCrashed: The Rise and Fall of WeWork” and will feature Oscar winners Jared Leto and Anne Hathaway.
“WeCrashed” will follow the rise and inevitable downfall of WeWork, one of the world’s most valuable startups, and narcissists whose chaotic love made it all possible, “Apple said Friday in a statement on its website.
